Rumor has that the NFL has been looking for ways to make extra points more challenging. It is said that the NFL has thought about narrowing the goal post to make points more difficult all over the field. As of now we are at a place where we score 86.6% of the time. Which is an improvement from over the years, 1970 the percentage was around 59%. Another thought was that they should place a crossbar at the top of the post to create a box that the ball would have to be kicked through. These changes are still being discussed and won’t be official anytime soon. It’s a good idea because to make some kind of change because these players are professionals and are getting paid thousands of dollars to play so therefore the game should be more challenging. Hopefully the board agrees to go forward with this decision. As of now the goal post is 18 feet, 6 inches wide since the league was founded in 1920. If the percentages stay this accurate we will most likely see some sort of change within the next few seasons.
